It’s here it’s here it’s here! MTV Geek just released the first red-band trailer for Kick-Ass 2, which sees masked crimefighters Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) and Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) a few years older, wiser, and better equipped to bring the smackdown on shady criminals. It’s a good thing that in addition to dealing with high school drama they’ve been training hard, because now they have to face off against Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who’s renamed himself The Motherfucker.
Not to mention a nearly-unrecognizable Jim Carrey as new masked hero Captain Stars and Stripes! This looks so good, you guys.
I’m just going to run through everything I loved about this trailer:
- I’m excited to report that Chloe Grace Moretz looks to be just as shockingly hilarious as she was in the first movie, despite having gone through puberty in the interim. So yeah, the jokes about a little kid yelling the c-word at some baddies are gone, but she’s as foulmouthed as ever.
- Kick-Ass 2 seems to spend as much time on the streets—with the cops cracking down on vigilantes—as it does in the high school cafeteria.
- Christopher Mintz-Plasse is the most fabulous hapless sidekick-turned-supervillain.
- Jim Carrey is clearly filling the father-figure role vacated by Nicolas Cage (RIP Big Daddy), but I honestly didn’t recognize him from the gravelly, almost Sean Connery-esque voice. Either way, I’m glad to see that he’s distancing himself as much as possible from his other iconic superhero movie role as The Riddler.
Warning: As you’ve doubtless already guessed, it’s delightfully NSFW.
